Prayer Is A Good Start, But Not The Finish

th2CL5CNJSDaily Prompt: Unexpected

Unexpectedly, you lose your job. (Or a loved one. Or something or someone important to you.) What do you do next?

When ever there is a sudden change or reversal in my life I pray immediately, whether it is good or bad. In this case the Daily Prompt seems to suggest it is bad news that comes.

The loss of a loved one is quite different from the loss of a job and thus the prayer would be quite different. Nevertheless a positive step should be taken as soon as possible.

If I lost my job start looking for a new one, right away.

If there is a loss of a loved one contact the person closest to them and comfort them.

Prayer sets things in motion. You don’t ask for the boulder in the road to be removed, you ask for help to move it, a way around it, or thank God you weren‘t there when it landed.

Tragedies come in our lives at unexpected times. They are like speed bumps or those strips on the side of the road that warn us we have drifted too far. They serve as reminders to not take anything in life for granted. They tell us to assess or lives soberly and determine what is really of value and importance.

One friend told me upon losing his job he found out how much it governed his life was a detriment to his family and health. He thanked God for being fired. He found a job that didn’t pay as well, but left him and his family in a better place emotionally and spiritually.

The loss of a loved one is never easy, but death will come. It is always good to reflect on promises in the Bible. “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous.” Acts 24:15.

Having hope is a key to overcoming or coping with any obstacle.

  1. A good, sobering reminder. It is so easy to take what and who we have for granted, until suddenly one day, they are gone. The verse you quoted has strengthened me many times through most difficult losses. I thank God I can share it with others to comfort them in their loss.

Blather away, if you like.
