A Homecoming from Afghanistan in Rode Apple Junction (Part 2)

(Continued from last week. Here is the idea:)

Create a Story; No Matter Who Gets Hurt

The newsmen stepped into the hall. The TV reporter pulled his cameraman away from the photographer and newspaper reporter. Once they were a distance away the reporter whispered to the

This is what those blood-sucking parasite newsmen who live off the misery of others wanted.

cameraman, “He’s not coming home. Maybe he’s been killed in action. That’s the story. When they break the news her Dad has been blown apart by an AID we’ll be here to catch the story and raw emotion. I smell a regional award for this, not to mention a Murrow.”

The newspaper reporter and his photographer slowly walked toward the TV reporter and his cameraman. The news reporter whispered, “Don’t you remember from your days in school that sound travels in these hallways and the echo lasts at least an hour.”

The TV reporter whispered quieter, “Than what do you think of my plan?”

“But what if the guy is alive?” the newspaper reporter whispered.

“That is the genius of this plan,” the TV news reporter said. “If he’s dead we win, if he’s alive we win; win, win. It’s all about winning!” The TV news reporter smiled coyly.

“I get it; dead or alive it’s a great story,” the newspaper reporter said.

“That’s right,” the TV reporter said. “My lead will be; ‘Girl thinks Dad is dead; Christmas Miracle; Dad lives.”

“They don’t teach you this in journalism,” the newspaper reporter said.

“Oh yes they do,” the TV reporter said and continued. “We’ll get the teacher to pull the girl from class. Tell her we received word that her Dad died. Her mother wanted her teacher to tell her. How does that sound.”

“This is a story. It sure beats the heck out of all those phony crying North Koreans over the death Kim Yung Ill.”

Mrs. Gladstone was told to tell little Darla her Dad was killed. She was distraught, but collected her emotions enough to pull little Darla from class.

With the lighting focused on little Darla and Mrs. Glastone coming from the class room the TV news reporter said, “Here we are about to witness right here and now live on Channel 4 News an exclusive by this reporter brought to you by Ft. Wayne City Used Car Mall the heart rendering news that little Darla Saterfields father was blown to pieces by an AID in Afghanistan minutes before he was supposed to come home on a surprise Christmas visit. Let’s catch the raw emotion and pain on this little girls face as she receives the bad news from her teacher Mrs. Gladstone. Take it away Mrs. Gladstone.”

Little Darla was confused by the lighting and the microphone between her and Mrs. Gladsone.

The TV newsman pointed quickly at Darla and Mrs. Gladsone and said, “Action.”

Mrs. Gladstone reached deep inside her and said in a somber voice, “Darla, my dear, we just got word your Dad was killed in Afghanistan.”

(Catch little Darla’s reaction next week.)

Bob Dylan’s work is difficult to get sometimes.
It’s your site and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it no matter what. Also, even though I don’t comment on all your selections, they are all very good. I’ve suggested site to many of my friends.
    Thanks,
    Kenton
